Junior League of Buffalo in the Community
The Junior League of Buffalo, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Signature Community Project
Partnering with Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County, the Junior League of Buffalo has focused time and resources to make a difference in the lives of adults learning to read. Now in the second year of this project, the partnership has strengthened through a grant from M&T Bank to support the League’s initiatives. The Junior League of Buffalo has purchased books and training materials to further Literacy Volunteers’ mission, and supported a holiday book giveaway for children to encourage reading at an early age. Members serve as drop in center tutors on a one-to-one basis to champion the goals of adults learning to read. Members also support the Literacy Volunteers resource library. The Bantu Youth Council, a project within Literacy Volunteers, is a forum through which Junior League of Buffalo members make a difference in the lives of high school students who are immigrants to the area.
